The New York Chapter of the Visual Artists Guild sponsored a Candlelight Vigil and Commemorative Tiananmen Dinner in New York’s Chinatown on Wednesday, June 4, 2008. Serving on the dinner committee Jeremy Taylor was on hand to honor human rights champions Mia Farrow and her son Ronan, Washington Director for Reporters Without Borders Lucie Morillon, and athlete Majora Carter. Visual Arts Guild chairperson Ann Lau and Ann Noonan hosted the event.

Ann Lau has campaigned for the rights of jailed Tiananmen Square protestors languishing in China’s Laogai prison system. She has also produced documentaries about human rights abuse in the People’s Republic of China and Burma; organized a 10-city press conference to petition for the release of jailed journalist Ching Cheong; and mobilized leaders and residents of Pasadena to defend human rights in China during the preparations for the 2008 Rose Parade’s Beijing Float.
